RGAS Refrigerants is a leading wholesale supplier of refrigerants and refrigerant lifecycle management services. Among our services is refrigerant recovery, a process by which our licensed contractors will remove purchased refrigerant substances from the refrigeration units and relocate them into storage vessels.
Refrigerants are fluid substances that undergo phase transitions from liquid to gas in order to cool refrigeration systems. Refrigerants come in a wide variety of types, but the most common refrigerants are chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has slowly been phasing out many of these refrigerants, as they contribute to the depletion of the ozone layer. Under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, refrigerants must be recovered instead of only being vented. Those who do not recover these substances may be subjected to heavy fines or jail time, which is why RGAS offers these services. Some recovered gasses may be reused after being purified in the reclamation process.
Refrigerant recovery starts with evacuating refrigerants that are still present in HVAC/R equipment. The recovered refrigerant will be processed to remove any impurities that are present and is commonly reused after undergoing an EPA-regulated purification process and brought back to AHRI-700 purification standards. In addition, the refrigerants themselves are often purified in a reclamation process, which can separate mixed refrigerants and/or clean dirty refrigerants. Refrigerant purchases frequently incentivize proper refrigerant recovery and reuse. After this process, RGAS packages the refrigerant for resale. Refrigerants that are too contaminated to be reused will be disposed of at a licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.
The RGAS team has over 30 years of experience in the refrigerant industry, and we always meet AHRI-700 standards for reclaimed refrigerants, giving our customers peace of mind knowing they are using/selling quality products. We offer a number of refrigerant services, including sales, delivery, analysis, cylinder sales and rental, recovery, reclaim, and disposal. In addition to having a multi-million-pound inventory, we also have a national distribution system that allows us to offer our products and services on a nationwide basis.
